Hiking Above the City

Yesterday a group of us went for a really awesome walk up the hill on the north side of Aachen. After an impressively steep climb and quick stop at a church halfway up, we continued on to other side which provided an awesome view of some farmland north of the city. I love the trees and forest here. Everything is so dense and green - way different from the pines and steep slopes back in Colorado. The two pictures below are looking north toward some farms and hay fields.
When we got a little farther along the road the trees started to close in, which proved to be a decent photo op with Nona and a shot of the group ahead - the second picture really gives a perspective on the size of the trees here, which are almost all over 100 feet tall.

When we finally got to the top there was a huge tower with a restaurant in the top that revolves one every hour. I really want to eat there sometime - as your table moves past the windows signs all around show the names of cities in the direction you're looking and the distance to them. We stood outside for a while and checked out the pseudo-aerial view of the city below.
